We spent 2 afternoons at the swimming hole- second afternoon was a little windy but first day was amazing, lounging in the tubes, swimming around. Something about this part of the river, there was a current one direction, and wind the other, making it a kind of eddy. One side was deep and full of 3-inch silvery fish. Clear, warm from the sun, and glorious.
Sidestroke across to the granite wall and there are footholds to climb up, and long slabs to lie against- they’re warm from the sun. It’s like Capri (not like I’ve been there).
Long drive from the Bay Area- approx. 4 hours up into Humboldt County and the Avenue of Giants, but totally worth it.
