The Gmail blog just posted on a new interface for the iPhone on their site. This is great, since the Gmail solution on the iPhone has been very problematic. I promptly logged in and checked it out:
- automatic zoom in on letters, so you can actually see the text
- nice Facebook-style menus that work just right for the iPhone (Facebook has been the best site to date for the iPhone)
- quick rendering (ajax?)
- big buttons (like the star) for easy clicking
It was very easy – just go to google.com and sign into your mail. Crazy it took them so long to do, but regardless, I appreciate it.

Hi, was just wondering if people actually thought the email app on the iPhone was problematic in conjunction with a Gmail account? In what ways is it deamed problematic? Missing stars, labels, etc.? Are there articles about this out there? Sorry, I’m just curious, as I’ve felt this way for awhile, but didn’t know I shared this feeling with others.

Yeah- when I first setup my mail account, that was before Gmail was IMAP, you had to do all kind of acrobatics to get it to work in iPhone’s mail program. Then, accessing via Safari was OK, but you were using a generic mobile app that is seriously de-featured. Compared to the interface for iPhone that Facebook has setup, which is clear, big fonts, and has a lot more feature than other mobile apps, Gmail-iPhone suffered. So this release, to me, puts it on par with other apps that are conforming to iPhone parameters.

Thanks for the reply and the links! That was much appreciated. I was surprised to read some of the thoughts and views on the Gmail / iPhone experience. I’ve been using the iPhone since October 2007 and have been generally happy with it (in conjunction with Gmail) – not really noticing the missing features.
However, since the iPhone firmware upgrade (1.1.3), I learned the hard way that the IMAP features now affect the Gmail account directly (i.e. delete = delete on the server immediately). While that’s what IMAP is supposed to do, I’m not used to it yet because the iPhone *didn’t* do that for so long.
I agree with you, though, that the upgrades to the web-based Gmail on the iPhone are improvements. I just wish the Login page wasn’t so small when first displayed.

One another note, I like your wordpress page / design. I’ve been wanting to start using wordpress for my own site…just haven’t had the time.
Good stuff!

The way to discover and use the best tips to develop your email marketing campaign is to start off with what you already know and then just keep on testing everything in your email campaigns. Both, other people’s best email marketing tips and also your own ideas.
